The New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NYSACDL) was formed in 1986 by a group of New York defense attorneys. The NYSACDL is a statewide organization for both private criminal defense attorneys and public defenders. The NYSACDL is an affiliate of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

 

NYSACDL is dedicated to creating a strong, well-trained defense bar to protect the rights of those accused of crimes. Membership is open to New York criminal defense lawyers.


Membership Information for NYSACDL

The benefits of joining NYSACDL include:

  • Opportunity to obtain NYSACDL's Lawyers Professional Liability Insurance Program designed to provide members with professional liability insurance coverage for firms and individuals;
  • An online listing in NYSACDL's searchable Membership Directory where members can include biographical information including positions held, bar admissions, schools attended, honors or publications;
  • The opportunity for referrals from other attorneys or the public who use the online searchable Membership Directory to find an attorney;
  • Access to a listserv (either Federal Practice or State Practice) which provides members with a forum to ask questions and exchange ideas;
  • Reduced rates to attend CLE SEMINARS sponsored by NYSACDL as an Approved Provider accredited by the New York State CLE board;
  • The opportunity to apply for the Twelve Angry Men scholarship to the annual National Criminal Defense College in Macon, Georgia;
  • Assistance through NYSACDL's amicus committee for issues of particular importance to the criminal defense bar;
  • Mentoring and strike force assistance for threats against a member for zealously representing a client; and
  • Heath insurance plans that provide affordable rates to attorneys and other members of their firm.

Publications of NYSACDL

The NYSACDL publishes a quarterly magazine called Atticus which is mailed to members. The NYSACDL website also has electronic copies of the current issue and archived issues of the magazines. Atticus contains articles about criminal defense issues as well as news about NYSACDL legislative activities.
