The Arlington County Bar Association established a Lawyer Referral Service in 1969. For more than 45 years, the Lawyer Referral Service has been helping individuals and businesses find local attorneys practicing in Arlington County, VA, and the surrounding areas of Fairfax County and Prince William County, VA.
When you call the service you will speak to a trained staff person who will ask you a few questions to determine which type of attorney you need. The service can make special accommodations if you need to meet with the attorney during evening or weekend hours. The program also has Spanish-speaking lawyers.
If a referral is appropriate then you will pay a nominal fee of $50 for the initial 30 minute consultation.
The attorneys that participate in the program serve on different panels depending on their interest and experience in a particular practice area. The attorneys are pre-screened and must maintain malpractice insurance. During the initial consultation you can discuss your case with the attorney and the attorney fees needed for additional representation.
Some attorneys charge a flat fee. Other attorneys require an initial retainer and charge by the hour. In some types of cases, including personal injury cases, the attorney may accept the case on a contingency fee basis.
