AAJ Calls for Action to End Forced Arbitration

Washington, DC  —  The following is a statement from American Association for Justice CEO Linda Lipsen on today’s hearing in the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Antitrust, Commercial, and Administrative Law concerning the dangers of forced arbitration, as well as the introduction of the Forced Arbitration Injustice Repeal (FAIR) Act to end this practice:

"Corporations rely upon forced arbitration clauses to cover up everything from nursing home abuse and racial discrimination to banking fraud, and sexual harassment. Today’s hearing will illustrate how these clauses buried in the fine print of everyday 'terms and conditions' allows corporate abuse to be shielded from public view while preventing workers, consumers and small businesses from holding law-breaking corporations accountable. With today’s introduction of the FAIR Act, now is the time for Congress to act to restore Americans' rights and stop corporations from using forced arbitration to break the law."
