House Republicans’ SECURE Data Act is a Sham

WASHINGTON, DC—American Association for Justice (AAJ) CEO Linda Lipsen issued the following statement after the House Energy and Commerce Committee held a hearing on the SECURE Data Act: "While House Republicans’ SECURE Data Act purports to protect Americans’ privacy, it would actually leave tens of millions of consumers more vulnerable than they were before. The bill includes sweeping preemption that would wipe out current data privacy protections under state law, leaving Americans less protected and with no ability to seek accountability when their privacy is violated. Lawmakers should reject this sham bill and instead work together on bipartisan legislation that ensures the safety and privacy of every American."
###  The  American Association for Justice  works to safeguard rights, promote fairness, and strengthen access to civil justice—even when it means taking on the most powerful corporations.  AAJ’s vision is justice for all.
