AAJ Statement Opposing Dangerous Pesticides Provision in Federal Appropriations Bill

WASHINGTON, DC—American Association for Justice CEO Linda Lipsen issued the following statement after the House Appropriations Committee advanced the Fiscal Year 2026 Interior-Environment Appropriations Bill:   "For too long, corporate pesticide giants like ChemChina and Bayer have misled farmers, state and Congressional legislators, and the public by claiming their products are safe. But thousands of  American farmers from all over the country have filed cases against both companies alleging that their pesticide products cause diseases such as non-Hodgkin lymphoma and Parkinson's disease.    "This year, state legislatures from Florida to Iowa rejected bills that would have given pesticide companies a free pass to sell dangerous products without being held accountable when they cause harm. Now, Congress is considering language that would block state, local, and federal governments from enforcing honest pesticide warning laws and keeping Americans safe. Section 453  would effectively allow pesticide companies to poison Americans and get off scot-free — it  is dangerous and wrong, and it must be removed."
Nine states have rejected pesticide immunity bills this year, including Florida, Iowa, Idaho, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Wyoming.
