AAJ Statement on Police Reform and “Qualified Immunity”

Washington, DC —  The following is a statement from American Association for Justice President Tad Thomas on "qualified immunity" and police reform:

"As advocates for individuals and families who have had their constitutional and civil rights violated by the very people sworn to protect them, we call on Congress to address the unfinished business of law enforcement reform. The unjust doctrine of ‘qualified immunity’ increasingly means that law enforcement officials, including border patrol agents and prison guards, are able to escape accountability for misconduct, even when they are acting in bad faith. It is time to end qualified immunity once and for all."
