Bill to End Forced Arbitration for Sexual Harassment and Assault Survivors Passes Both Senate and House Judiciary Committees

Washington, DC – The following is a statement from American Association for Justice CEO Linda Lipsen after the House Judiciary Committee voted to advance the Ending Forced Arbitration of Sexual Assault & Sexual Harassment Act , a bill ending forced arbitration for the survivors of sexual assault and harassment:

"Forced arbitration is a secretive, rigged system that takes away the rights of survivors to choose how to seek justice when they are sexually harassed or assaulted.

"We commend the members on both sides of the aisle who voted to advance this bill out of the House Judiciary Committee. To the survivors who were stripped of their rights yet courageously came forward in yesterday’s hearing, you clearly made a lasting impact on Committee members and the public, as you achieved the kind of public accountability that forced arbitration had denied you."

The Senate Judiciary Committee voted to advance a similar bill on a bipartisan basis earlier this month.
