Houston Lawyer Referral Service is a community based non-profit service established in 1958. It is sponsored by the Houston Bar Association and nine other local bar associations. HLRS is certified by the State Bar of Texas and recognized by the American Bar Association.
Each year the service helps thousands of people find a qualified attorney in the greater Houston Metropolitan area including Harris County, Montgomery County, Fort Bend County, Brazoria County and Galveston County. Texas.
More than 200 local attorneys in private practice participate in the service. On average, each attorney has more than 17 years experience. All of those attorneys have been pre-screened to determine their eligibility. These attorneys focus in one or more of 38 different legal categories including: personal injury, criminal defense, family law, and immigration law.
The service accepts calls during normal business hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday through Friday.

When you call the service a trained staff person will talk with you about your legal concern. The staff is bilingual and speaks Spanish. After the initial intake, you will be referred to a qualified attorney. The staff can refer you to a bilingual attorney if needed. A $20 consultation fee is required for a 30 minute office consultation with the attorney.
Attorneys that participate in the service must be in good standing with the State Bar of Texas, have malpractice insurance and complete an application and interview.
