Contacting the HCBA LRIS

When you call the service, a trained staff person will collect some basic information that remains confidential. The service may contact you again to ask you to rate the quality of our service.

In exchange for $35 fee, which is a reduced rate for a consultation, the attorney agrees to provide a 30-minute consultation. The fee can be paid to the HCBA LRIS via credit card online or in cash at the office.

During the initial 30-minute consultation, you can talk with the attorney about his or her qualifications and experience, the legal problem and the attorney fees needed for additional services.

If the attorney you are referred to cannot help, the program might offer to refer you to a second attorney at no additional charge. The attorney fees are nonrefundable.

The fee is waived for all active-duty military personnel and cases involving social security, workers’ compensation, foreclosure, personal bankruptcy, employment law, torts, personal injury. The service can often make referrals for attorneys that are willing to make a house call, hospital visit or jail visit.

To qualify to be a member of the Lawyer Referral & Information Service the attorney must:

  • be members in good standing of The Florida Bar;
  • be engaged in the full-time practice of law;
  • certify competency in any area of law in which clients will be accepted;
  • agree to maintain a law office that is clearly identifiable to the public; and
  • provide proof of professional liability insurance of at least $100,000.

The LRIS partners with the 13th Judicial Circuit and the Clerk of Court's Office to provide marketing material in prime locations. The Lawyer Referral & Information Service has also partnered with FOX 13 and The Tampa Tribune for a monthly segment and column featuring advice from our attorneys. LRIS has also arranged community speaking engagements for members.
