If you want to find an attorney in Orange County, the Orange County Bar Association ("OCBA") manages a non-profit Lawyer Referral and Information Service. The OCBA has been a trusted source for referrals for the last 50 years. The OCBA has offices in Newport Beach, CA. It is accredited by the State Bar of California. It also meets the standards set by the American Bar Association.
Attorneys serving on the LRIS panels are experienced in a variety of different practice areas. OCBA has attorneys that practice in one of more than 35 areas of the law. Each attorney is selected for a panel based on their experience and good standing in the California Bar. In addition, the attorney must carry malpractice insurance, which is not otherwise required for attorneys.
When the person calls the service, a staff person will talk with the person about the legal issue. If appropriate, the service will charge an administrative fee of $25 for the referral to a qualified attorney. The attorney will then provide a 30 minute consultation. If the person retains the attorney, the attorney must pay the service a percentage of the attorney's fees collected.
The $25 administrative fee is waived for personal injury, workers' compensation, medical malpractice, social security and family law cases.
