On November 1, 1957, attorneys in South Carolina founded the South Carolina Plaintiff’s Attorney Association, which is now known as the South Carolina Association for Justice (SCAJ). Officially incorporated in January 1958 with 77 members, SCAJ has grown to over 1000 members, becoming a prominent professional organization in South Carolina. In its early years, SCAJ influenced the legal profession by helping to draft the Workers’ Compensation Commission Guidelines for Attorney’s Fees.
Throughout its history, the organization has undergone several name changes but has consistently aimed to protect victims’ rights through litigation, lobbying, and raising awareness. SCAJ offers its members various services, including legislative monitoring, newsletters, liability insurance, continuing legal education, and exclusive online forums.
Lawyer Legion maintains a statewide directory of personal injury lawyers in South Carolina which includes both SCAJ members and non-members. To help the public find the best choices when searching for a personal injury attorney, Lawyer Legion recognizes attorneys for their involvement and leadership within the SCAJ and other professional associations. This includes recognition for SCAJ members who have updated their Lawyer Legion profile to include information about their involvement with the SCAJ.
