AILA ED: Extension of Temporary Protected Status for Several Countries and Addition of Romania to the Visa Waiver Program Welcome News

Washington, DC – Today, American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) Executive Director Ben Johnson welcomed news of several actions taken by the Biden Administration:

"Extending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for nationals of El Salvador, Ukraine, Sudan, and Venezuela will give breathing room to people whose home countries are still in turmoil. Hundreds of AILA members have been urging President Biden to take these steps, so we are pleased he has acted. Using the Secretary of Homeland Security’s immigration authority to protect nationals from these countries will undoubtedly save lives and keep families united. Further, the news that Romania is added to the Visa Waiver Program is welcome as well; it will increase efficiency and allow for ease of travel and movement."
