Statement from AILA President Allen Orr Regarding National Efforts to Assist Black Migrants

Washington, DC - AILA President Allen Orr, Esq. stated, "As we recognize National Day of Action and National Week of Action for Black Migrants, as AILA's first Black president, I join with the leadership at the Black Alliance for Just Immigration (BAJI) and Haitian Bridge Alliance (HBA) in demanding this administration end the use of Title 42 and deportations and reform the bond system. I am very proud to be AILA's President and to help lead our efforts to lean into this important work. Through our Immigration Justice Campaign, in partnership with the American Immigration Council, we are providing representation and legal assistance. Our advocacy team is educating and informing Congressional offices and agency staff about necessary policy changes, and myriad others at AILA and within our membership are working together to help those affected.

But the fact that today, in 21st Century America, any of these battles need to be fought is appalling. We will work with our partners to effect change in this space and ensure that those who come to our shores have the meaningful chance to seek protection that our laws, and our integrity, require."
