Lawyer Referral Service in St. Petersburg

The purpose of the St. Petersburg Bar Association Lawyer Referral Service is to assist the general public by referring persons who can afford to pay a reasonable fee for legal services to members of The Florida Bar.  

Participating attorneys are screened to ensure their good standing with the Florida Bar. Attorneys must also maintain professional liability insurance of not less than $100,00.00.

Attorneys must also agree to follow the Rules and Regulations of the St. Petersburg Bar Association’s Lawyer Referral Service (LRS). The office hours are from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Monday thru Friday.

If you contact the lawyer referral service, then a trained staff person will talk with you about their legal issue and take down your contact information. You can also request an attorney that will visit you in the hospital or at the jail.

In some cases, the attorney can visit you at your house in special circumstances (elderly, handicapped). You can also request an attorney that speaks a foreign language.

In exchange for a $50.00 referral fee, you will receive a referral to an attorney experienced in the needed practice area. The attorneys that participate in the service agree to provide a half hour consultation at no additional charge. This consultation may be conducted over the telephone.

No referral fee is required for jail referrals in criminal cases, bankruptcy, medical and legal malpractice, personal injury and negligence, social security and workers’ compensation.

When appropriate, individuals who can not afford the referral fee will be referred to the Gulfcoast Legal Services, the Community Law Program or the Public Defender’s Office for assistance.
