Lawyer Referral Service for Los Angeles County

If you need an attorney in Los Angeles County, the Los Angeles County Bar Association (LACBA) has a non-profit Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LRIS). The LRS for Los Angeles County is certified by the State Bar of California and approved by the American Bar Association.

For more than 75 years, the service has been helping individuals and businesses in the area find a qualified attorney. Today, the Los Angeles County Bar Association's Lawyer Referral Service is the largest LRS in the United States. Each year, it serves more than 100,000 members of the public with pre-recorded legal information and with referrals to its hundreds of pre-screened lawyers.

When you call the LACBA LRS, a trained staff member will discuss your case with you in a confidential phone consultation. Depending on your needs, the staff member will select the attorney to assist you on a rotating basis. There is no charge to get a referral to the attorney. Additionally, the attorney has agreed to provide a free 30 minute consultation to discuss the case.

The staff at LRIS can refer you to an attorney that speaks a different language when needed. For your convenience, you can also request an attorney in a specific part of the county including the city of Los Angeles, Long Beach, Glendale, Santa Clarita and Lancaster, CA.

In order to maintain it accreditation, the service follows the State Bar of California’s Minimum Standards for a Lawyer Referral Service in California. Additionally, the attorneys that serve on the panels and accept the referrals must follow the Rules Governing the Lawyer Referral & Information Service (LRIS).
