Oklahoma Bar Rules for Attorney Advertising

When attorneys market online in Oklahoma, they must adhere to the rules and regulations for advertising set out by the Oklahoma Bar Rules. The rules can be found on the Oklahoma State Bar website and are related to website design and internet marketing can be found at Rule 7.1 through Rule 7.5. The rules in Oklahoma track closely with the Model Rules from the American Bar Association. Failure to abide by these rules can result in disciplinary actions such as expensive fees.

Before you redesign your law firm's website or start a new internet marketing campaign, you must review the Oklahoma Bar Rules. These rules present what an attorney is able to say on their websites. The purpose of the Oklahoma Bar Rules is to ensure that all attorneys promote themselves in a genuine and fair manner.

Some of these regulations may seem restrictive, however this does not mean you are unable to advertise. Having a thorough understanding of search engine mechanics, social media, and the importance of posting regularly can help you maintain a strong Internet presence.
