The State Bar of Montana is a mandatory bar governed by a 20-member Board of Trustees that the membership elects. The mission of this Board is to lead the legal profession and serve the public interest through proper guidance of the State Bar of Montana.

The State Bar of Montana strives to improve the legal profession by requiring high standards of integrity, learning, conduct, competence, and conduct of its members.

Additionally, it is a safeguarded forum for the discussion and/or effective action concerning legal subject and a way to achieve positive relations with the public. Montana lawyers must complete 15 credits each year of continuing legal education. Prior to the current organization was a voluntary association founded in 1885.

Montana Association of Trial Attorneys

The Montana Trial Lawyers Association (MTLA) is a non-profit organization for attorneys in Montana who represent litigants to secure a just result for the injured, the accused, and those whose rights are jeopardized. Many of the top personal injury attorneys in Montana belong to the organization.
