TEX-ABOTA

The Texas Chapters of the American Board of Trial Advocates (TEX-ABOTA) was formed in 1991. The principal office of the corporation in the State of Texas is located at 2003 Indiana Street, Houston, Texas 77019.

Members of ABOTA who practice law in the state of Texas are also members of TEX-ABOTA. With over 1,200 members, TEX-ABOTA is one of the largest regional chapters in the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). Many of the best personal injury lawyers in Texas are members of this organization.



Purpose of ABOTA

The purpose of TEX-ABOTA is to foster the preservation and promotion of the civil jury trial right provided by the Seventh Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, to promote the elevation and improvement in the standards of integrity, honor, ethics, and civility in the field of trial advocacy and to promote the independence of the judiciary.

As the regional organization for the 16 chapters in Texas, TEX-ABOTA is a non-profit corporation. Members of the TEX-ABOTA have the opportunity to connect with other ABOTA members across the state.


Committees for ABOTA

Under the most current TEX-ABOTA By-Laws were approved in June of 2015, the organization is governed by its Board of Directors and Executive Board comprised of the President, President-elect, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and Immediate Past President of TEX-ABOTA.

Members of TEX-ABOTA are encouraged to take on leadership positions within the organization by joining one of the following standing committees:

  1. The Budget/Long Range Planning Committee
  2. Annual Meeting Sponsorship Committee, which shall be responsible for soliciting and obtaining sponsors
  3. Civility Matters/Civility Oath
  4. The New Chapter Relations, Revitalization and Members Committee
  5. The Defense of the Judiciary
  6. Diversity/Inclusion Committee
  7. Expedited Jury Trial & Civil Procedure Committee
  8. Amicus Curiae Committee
  9. Law Rules Committee
  10. Legislative & Education Fund (LEF) Committee
  11. Legislative Committee
  12. MIT at State Bar Convention Committee
  13. The Texas Civil Trial Roundtable Committee
  14. The Youth Education Committee
  15. The Awards Committees
  16. The Webpage & History Committee
  17. The Nominating Committee
  18. The ABOTA Foundation Committee

Events of TEX-ABOTA

TEX-ABOTA currently has two main events:

  • TEX-ABOTA Santa FE CLE Roundup & Board Meeting & Annual Dinner (held in Santa Fe, NM since 2008).
  • Annual Member Dinner Dance & Board Meeting, now held during our Annual Santa Fe CLE Roundup in Santa Fe
