Lawyer Referral Service of the Fairfax Bar Association

For more than 20 years, the Fairfax Bar Association has sponsored a Lawyer Referral Service. This non-profit public service helps individuals and businesses find a local and qualified attorney for a specific practice area of the law.

Each year the staff takes more than 10,000 calls and refers more than 3,000 individuals and businesses to local attorneys in Fairfax County, Northern Virginia County, Prince William (Manassas) County, Loudoun County, Stafford County, Alexandria County and Arlington County, VA.

The Fairfax Bar Association's LRS is recognized by the American Bar Association for meeting its standards. The LRS has established and maintained objective experience requirements for their panel attorneys. Furthermore, the LRS provides a mechanism for client feedback and for resolving client complaints. All attorneys serving on the panel carry legal malpractice insurance.

In 2005, the Fairfax LRS was the winner of the American Bar Association's Cindy A. Raisch Award Recognizing Superior Service in a Public Service Lawyer Referral and Information Program.

How Does the Fairfax Lawyer Referral Service Work?

When you call the Fairfax Bar Association's Lawyer Referral Service a trained staff person will talk with you about the facts of the case. The staff will help you determine whether you need an attorney or other services. If a referral is appropriate then the service will select an attorney for you. 

The staff person will consider the type and complexity of the legal problem, your geographical preference, language requirements, your schedule and your financial means.

The attorneys in the program service on different panels depending on their experience in a particular practice area of the law. Each attorney is pre-screened and must carry malpractice insurance.

After the referral, you are free to contact the attorney for a thirty-minute consultation in exchange for a non-refundable $40.00 consultation fee. During the consultation the attorney can answer your questions and help you determine what additional services might be needed and what attorney fees would be required to complete those services.
