Lawyer Referral Service in Tarrant County

The Tarrant County Bar Association established a non-profit Lawyer Referral and Information Service ("LRIS") with offices in Fort Worth, Texas. This community based service helps people find an attorney in Tarrant County, Johnson County, Wise County, Parker County, Denton County, and Hood County, TX.

According to the 2019-2020 rules of membership for the Lawyer Referral & Information Services, Rules of Membership, membership may be sought by any attorney in Tarrant County who:

  • maintains an office within a contiguous county of Tarrant County;
  • is engaged in the full-time practice of law;
  • is admitted to practice in the State of Texas;
  • is in good standing with the State Bar of Texas;
  • agrees to abide by the Rules of Membership of the Tarrant County Bar Association Lawyer Referral & Information Service (LRIS);
  • is competent to practice in the areas of law he or she has marked on the Areas of Practice form;
  • has never had his or her license suspended by the State Bar of Texas or any other state bar association;
  • will conform to the Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct and to the Texas Lawyer’s Creed;
  • will be bound by the Rules of Participation of the LRIS and by all terms of the LRIS agreement;
  • maintains in force and effect professional liability insurance in the minimum amount of $100,000.00 and will furnish the LRIS with a copy of the declaration page of said policy;
  • agrees to Fee Arbitration through the Tarrant County Bar Association Fee Arbitration Committee if client files papers to arbitrate.

Finding an Attorney in Tarrant County, TX

After the initial confidential interview, the staff person will assign an attorney for the referral. The staff person will give you the attorney's name and contact information.

After the referral, you can contact the attorney for a consultation in the office or over the phone. For a $20 consultation fee, you are entitled to a 30 minute consultation. During the consultation you can discuss the problem with the attorney. You can also talk with the attorney about the attorney fees needed for additional services.
