The Boston Bar Association (BBA) sponsors a Lawyer Referral Service (LRS). For more than 50 years, this public non-profit service has helped individuals find a local attorney in Boston, Suffolk County, and the surrounding areas of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Attorneys that participate in the Lawyer Referral Service are experienced in one or more of 300 different practice areas of the law. The Lawyer Referral Service is recognized by the American Bar Association.

The attorneys that participate in the program are in good standing with the State Bar of Massachusetts and the licensing board of the state, the Board of Bar Overseers. The attorneys are screened for their experience and qualifications and carry malpractice insurance.

How Does the Lawyer Referral Service Work?

When you call the service, you will speak with a referral specialist employed by the Boston Bar Association. The referral specialist will conduct a confidential intake process to determine the type of legal services needed.

The Lawyer Referral Service in Boston is opened from Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. On Friday, the Lawyer Referral Service is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The service is closed on all major holidays.

You can also request a referral by using the secure online form found on the website for the Boston Bar Association. You must pay at $25 consultation fee to receive the 30 minute consultation with the attorney.

Once you receive the referral, you can contact the attorney to schedule the 30 minute office consultation. During the consultation you can discuss your case with an attorney and the attorney fees for additional representation.
